How do I get started?

It’s easy! Simply call, text or email. We can set up a 15 minute phone consultation or just dive right in and schedule an appointment.

How do I know if we are the right fit?

This one is less easy. I will admit, one frustrating thing with therapy is finding the right person and the “right” person looks different for many people. It does require a bit of shopping around, so I encourage you to take advantage of any free phone consultation a therapist offers. This is a great way of getting a understanding of their style and approach, as well as ask any questions you may have. Psychology Today is great resource for finding a therapist near you.

I will be happy to share my referral list with you - simply reach out today!

What is your training?

I completed my B.A in Sociology from the University of Florida in 2012. I worked in social services for seven years. I received my Masters of Social Work from UNC at Chapel Hill in 2018. I’ve worked in both inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient behavioral health clinics providing both individual and group therapeutic services. I’ve been in private practice since 2021. I have training in all of the therapeutic modalities I use including CBT, ACT, MBCT, and EMDR. I am legally required to obtain continuing education credits to maintain my license, therefore, I am constantly training and learning evidence-based practices and staying on top of the latest research.

How often should I go to therapy?

The answer to this is ultimately up to you. After all, this is YOUR experience, YOUR journey. Therapy takes a great deal of time and resources, so sometimes people simply can’t come weekly due to logistics and that’s okay. Progress can still be made.

I do typically recommend that for the first month we meet weekly just to get some momentum as it takes time to know your story. After the first month, we usually switch to every two weeks. However, this is only a recommendation and not a requirement.

What should I expect during our first session?

Before our first session, I send my practice policy documents to you to complete online. This way, we have more time in our session to talk rather than complete paperwork.

Our first session will primarily be creating a foundation. It’s typically more of a question/answer format as future sessions are more conversational in nature. We will start to lay the groundwork for establishing goals and your “why” behind starting therapy.

Should I bring anything with me?

I recommend that every client have a notebook dedicated to therapy sessions. It’s a great way to collect qualitative data along the way to reference later, but also to track improvements. You might have an “aha” moment or see something in a new light that you want to remember. I also assign homework intermittently, so having a notebook is a great way to keep everything in one place.

It’s also helpful to write out things you want to talk about in therapy as it comes up during the week. Sometimes, when you’re put on the spot, it’s hard to remember things, so having a notebook is a great way to prepare for sessions.

When will I feel better?

Unfortunately, I cannot offer a timeline on this as everyone experiences things differently. I can say however, that there are 168 hours in a week and you may only spend one of those hours in therapy, therefore, change happens outside of our time together. It is ultimately up to you to practice skills, homework assignments and challenge behavioral patterns in between sessions.

Therapy will be challenging at times, because you are giving space to all of the things you’ve been avoiding. That means you are sitting in the discomfort of it all, which can be HARD at times. It’s going to get uncomfortable at times. After all, you don’t go to the gym to take it easy and I don’t want to sell you short of it being any different in therapy.

Lastly, I have seen AMAZING changes in my clients after working together. It is my ultimate goal for you not to need me. Change is incredibly difficult, but absolutely possible. And, I will be there to support you every step of the way.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, I am not a physician. Three psychiatry groups I recommend are:

Sweetgrass Psychiatry

Cluver Psychiatric Group

Centerway Behavioral Health
